ALA PRIZE FOR YOUNG LEADERSThe ALA Prize for Young Leaders will be awarded by African Leadership Academy to a young South African between the ages of 14 and 18 who has created an innovative solution to a pressing problem in their community, has demonstrated passion for Africa, and who has academic promise. The award will also be used to assist with the further development of the winner's project.
Applicants will be judged on the scalability, impact and ingenuity of their solution to a pressing problem within an African community. Additionally, they must show a track record of academic promise and a demonstrated passion for Africa. The winner will receive R40,000. An additional R30,000 will be used at the winner's discretion to assist and enhance the sustainability of the project. Finally, R10,000 will be awarded to the person who first nominates the eventual winner.
Applicants can nominate themselves or community members may nominate an applicant. The first person to nominate the winning applicant will be awarded R10,000 for their effort. Nomination forms can be found here.
Submissions are open, all submissions are due by June 3, 2010.

The ALA Prize for Young Leaders is looking to recognise similar pro-active problem solvers within South Africa -- whether it’s in the fields of science & technology, civil society, arts & culture, sports, business or any other field -- who have taken active steps to see their dreams realized; particularly dreams that serve to improve the lives of the people in their families, schools, communities or world at large.
